I remember as a little girl loving going to my Auntie Robby's house. She had some fun activities for us to do and the best toys. (Perhaps they weren't the best toys but they were different than my toys and I was usually not bored playing with them). She was gentle and kind with me. A soft place to land.
I want to be that kind of mom. I want the kind of home my children's friends want to play at (and hang at when they are older).
Recently I babysat one of my friend's little boys for the day. He participated in preschool with us and we all made Rice Krispie squares together and played a game. Well when his dad came to pick him up you may have thought he went to Disneyland for the day. He was so excited to recount the day's events to his dad right when the man walked in the door.
For that day I was that mom. I had that kind of home.
My prayer is for my house to always be welcoming and for people (children and adults) to love coming here.

How sweet! If you feel so fondly about the memories of you Aunt, then you are just that, "That type of Mom!"
Oh, that is so sweet! My sister and I used to go to a neighbor's house when we were little and she always had little projects for us - cooking or crafts. I loved visiting her.
On another note...recently I had a boy over to play with my children. We made muffins and the kids painted. When his mother picked him up, I gave her a few muffins and his art. She said, "Don't think I'm doing this if your kids come to my house." Um, okay. That was a weird response. I don't think my kids will be going to her house, and it has nothing to do with the fact that they won't bake or do art. She is simply rude and not someone I want to have any influence over my children. Sorry for blabbing.
Just so you know my children also love you and your home.
I am right there with you, Sara. I hope I am that kind of mom, too.
Good for you! I'll try to do more of that with my own little girls. I needed that inspiration. :)
My inspiration for the older years is a couple who were 'mom' and 'dad' to all their kids' teen and twenty-ish friends. Lots of cooking, lots of groceries, lots of late nights, but all so special!
Blessings,
Annie Kate
I hope I'm that kind of Mom too. I'm working on it.
