Delaney School... Counting Bears and the Letter A

Yay for Delaney school!  I finally feel slightly organized in this department... I am thrilled to be starting letter of the week themes... beginning with letter A of course.

I busted out the tangrams... and they were a big hit with little and big kids alike.

I discovered the blog The Measured Mom this week... There are some fantastic printables there to download and use.  Here Delaney is creating apples on her "baby a" with a red Do-A-Dot and a green marker.

Another The Measured Mom printable is this counting bears sorter... we added a dice and played a game of put "this many" red bears in the red bear circle...etc.

How lucky was I to come across these build a letter sheets from Confessions of A Homeschooler?  They are the perfect accompaniment for our current tangram obsession  interest.

Look What I Found At Wal-Mart!

This was a very exciting find as there are not really any teacher stores near by so I get quite thrilled at the little things I find here and there. Are you ready for me to reveal?

A little white board with LINES!  I love this thing!  

Writing practice just got a whole new element added to it :)

Preschool Corner Letter Z!!!

Finally! We have come to the end of the alphabet!
Z is for zig zag.

and playing with zippers.

Other Alphabet Activity:
Hudson matched up magnet letters for the whole uppercase alphabet.

Math and Logic
I had a great helper sorting out my button collection for me :)

Didn't he do a great job?

We played a game where Hudson rolled a dice and counted that amount of beans into a cup.

I had Hudson put the appropriate number of mini binder clips onto each number flash card 1-5.

Science and Cooking
Chocolate chunk cookies!  Need I say more?

 

I bought some make your owns snow at the $1 store. 

Hudson played with it for a LONG time.

Art
I have quite enjoyed shopping at the $1 store for Christmassy school activities.
Hudson painted these window clingys

I find the orange to ba a refreshing change from red and green :)

We also had a lovely day decorating the Christmas tree.
Hudson was quite particular about putting up the ornaments.

Which is probably why they ended up on only his favorite 3 branches :)

Preschool Corner Letter X and Y

Our first day of school we declared a snow day and headed outside. This counts as P.E. right?

Alphabet Activities:

We used No Time for Flash Cards as our inspiration for our Letter X.

First Hudson colored a piece of black paper with chalk to make it look like and x-ray.

Then we glued on 2 paper bones to make an X.

Hudson did this letter Y activity with daddy.(who is much more skilled with a camera than I am).

They used an assortment of yellow items and coloring tools to make a yellow Y.

Hudson created a yarn collage as well.

Math and Logic

This Moses puzzle was a new one for Hudson to put together.

I also have Hudson this wooden shapes puzzle to sort and solve.  There are various combinations to how the pieces go together so it is a bit more open ended than a traditional puzzle.

Hudson put together 1-5 of the number matching puzzle.

And he counted out buttons to go with the coresponding numbers on flash cards.

Miscellaneous Fun 

After this picture was taken Hudson said "Mom is God laughing at me because I'm so funny?"

Preschool Corner Letter W

This is the first time I have divided my post up into subjects.  How fun to have enough activities in a week to do so :)

Reading and Writing
I really love how our winter W turned out. I got the idea from No Time For Flash Cards
and tweaked it just a little.
First I let Hudson write with my embossing pen on the DLTK Ww that  I printed on dark blue cardstock.

Then we sprinkled on some kaleidascope powder, heated it and made the W's look icy.

Next Hudson glued some pre-cut snowflakes on to some light blue cardstock.

And glued the cut out W's on top.

Pretty Fancy Schmancy don't you think?

Hudson practiced some pre-writing skills in his Kumon Easy Maze book.

He has become quite skilled at holding his pencil.

We read Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin quite a lot this week and made a spaghetti worm craft to go with it.

Math

We are back to basics in the number department here.Working mostly with numbers 1-5.
In this activity Hudson used buttons to count the correct amount for each card.

Hudson practiced number sequencing with this 0-9 puzzle.

We have been tracing numbers 1-5 over and over again in Kumon Numbers 1-30.

Science and Cooking

Hudson helped me make cinnamon rolls.  He loves pour ingredients, roll dough and spread the cinnamon and sugar.

Miscellaneous

These blocks are from Ikea.  They are a great open ended toy.  Hudson quite enjoyed building with them.

We had a small emergency this week when Hudson got his elbow stuck in a chair.

Never fear!  Some gobs of vaseline and mom pulling got him free after a while.
