Delaney School... Counting Bears and the Letter A

Yay for Delaney school!  I finally feel slightly organized in this department... I am thrilled to be starting letter of the week themes... beginning with letter A of course.

I busted out the tangrams... and they were a big hit with little and big kids alike.

I discovered the blog The Measured Mom this week... There are some fantastic printables there to download and use.  Here Delaney is creating apples on her "baby a" with a red Do-A-Dot and a green marker.

Another The Measured Mom printable is this counting bears sorter... we added a dice and played a game of put "this many" red bears in the red bear circle...etc.

How lucky was I to come across these build a letter sheets from Confessions of A Homeschooler?  They are the perfect accompaniment for our current tangram obsession  interest.

What went on in your homeschool week? What are your kiddos current passions?

A Little Totschool Report

Delaney lights up at the chance to "do school" in the school room.  She is only with the big kids and I in the morning and then she heads for a nap after lunch while we work on project time.

These baskets of fruits and veggies are a staple in our tot school day... we play "what's hiding under the basket... sort colors and feed various dolls and stuffed animals.

A little magic coloring... no mess but lots of fun and fine motor skill development.

We went on a field trip to the museum and participated in cave drawing.  By the end and with the addition of red paint Delaney's cave drawing looked like a record of a massacre.

Gymnastics has been a super fun activity for Delaney... she loves being in the class with her friends... and not gonna lie her Minnie Mouse legging are a definite attraction for her.

Monsters!  Delaney loves monsters... She often wants to be called the Gruffalaney and asks if I can see her knobboly knees.  So crafting her own monster was quite thrilling.

What are your tots up to?

Tot School with Meadow

Meadow had a great time helping pack Operation Christmas Child boxes this week.

She spent some quiet time looking at books on her Princess couch.

We added "all done" to Meadow's signing vocabulary this week as well.
She has caught on quite nicely.

Really mom no more soup!

Meadow was quite captivated by our bead maze (is that what those things are called).  If she can be undisturbed (as in no big brother "showing her how it's done") while playing with it she is happy for a good 10-15 minutes.

Tot School with Meadow *GIVEAWAY*

Giveaway Closed!
I have a love hate relationship with Tot School right now. I love spending one on one time with Meadow and watching her learn and discover. I hate when i sit down to write these posts and I feel like I have spent hardly any quality time with my little girl. Never the less the show must go on.

Our week really began last Saturday.  Meadow was on the sidelines with Daddy cheering me on as I ran a 5k race.   (You can read more about that Monday over at The Fifth Street Palace ).

Meadow played in her highchair with some pieces of cut up sponge.

She spent some time playing in a laundry basket with Hudson. (I was informed by Hudson that it is not a laundry basket it is a bus).

We brought home a worm composter this week.  Both kids enjoyed setting it up with Daddy.

I am not sure where we got this toy from (I think the dump reuse plaza but I am not certain).  however it has been a hit for both of our children as babies. It moves and makes rattling noises and has a pretend clock on one end.  Never ending fun!  (I wish).

Last picture is reading stories with Daddy.  Meadow's favorite book That's Not My Fairy.

Now on to the GIVEAWAY part of this post.  (No I am not giving away Meadow even though she is so darn cute and would make a lovely prize).

I have been organizing my studio this weekend and I came across this:

An alphabet scrapbook album (along with 3 sets of page protectors and 2 sets of extra pages).  The album is 7x7.
I had wonderful intentions of using it when Hudson and I first started our alphabet adventure.  We would adorn each page with an art project corresponding with each letter of the alphabet and have a glorious keepsake to look back on over the years.
However it became hidden in the pile of wonderful undone things.  So I am giving you a chance to redeem my lack of motivation!

How to enter:
Mandatory- Leave me a comment telling me how you will use this sweet album.

Extra entries (leave a comment for each one)
*Follow The Fifth Street Academy publicly (If you already do leave me a comment reminding me).

*Spread the word. Blog about this giveaway, share it on facebook, email your best pal... let me know how you spread the word in your comment.

Rules: This Giveaway is open to US and Canadian addresses only.
Giveaway ends Sunday October 25 2009 at 9pm Pac time.
Winner will be chosen by random.org.  If the winner does not reply with their mailing information within 48 hours or I do not have a way to contact the winner a new winner will be chosen.

Tot School with Meadow

We really have had some wonderful experiences for Tot School with Meadow.

While on vacation last week (when I wasn't too sick with the flu) Meadow got to go for a nature walk with just mommy and daddy.

Peeking over the bridge was a highlight of the walk.

I love this birdhouse shape sorter from Melissa and Doug.

Meadow doesn't understand matching shapes and colors yet.  This toy has 4 different bird that make various noises.  They jingle, crinkle, squeak and rattle.  We had lots of fun with mommy "hiding" a bird in the house and Meadow getting it out.

Not exactly a planned activity....

Meadow is moving around a lot more lately.  Apparently her sucky was under her bed so she just scooted herself under there to get it.

The joy of a box.

Especially when one has an older brother to push you around in it.  This was about a half hour of entertainment for both kiddos.  Meadow learned patience and Hudson learned that it is not ok to run and crash Meadow's "car" into the wall.

Tot School with Meadow.

Day 1
Playing with cooked noodles.

She squished and pinched the noodles for a bit.

Then as expected had a tasty mid morning snack.

Day 2 Balancing act.
Yes seriously we balanced things on Meadow's head.  Hudson's favorite bear stayed on her head for quite a long time.

The rest of the week we were travelling.

Tot School with Meadow.

Oh how I love the focused time I spend with Meadow. It is such a wonderful blessing to watch her discover new and enjoyable things.
This week we looked in the mirror. Here Meadow is trying to share her suckie with the "other baby"
I brought out the fabric tunnel and we explored that for a little while.

I attempted to have Meadow discover a box full of various toys.
But her brother kept adding to the toy collection and it was chaos.
