Science- Will It Float?

Hudson and I did a fun science experiment to find out what floats and what doesn't.
Materials:
  • a largish bowl of water
  • Yes area and No area (we used 2 colored plates)
  • various small household items

The objects I chose were a cork, a small binder clip, a piece of sponge, a pencil, a button, a quarter, a key and an eye dropper.

Hudson placed each thing in the bowl of water one at a time.

Then sorted them into the categories of floats(the yellow plate) and sinks (the orange plate).

A very good lesson and lots of fun playing with water.

Simple, instructive and fun - a perfect experiment for little ones. We might do one when we get back to the ocean theme in a few weeks.

Looks like fun! They can even continue to the sink/float theme in the bathtub. Thanks for sharing!

I have yet to do this one. I keep planning on doing it, but not doing it. Isn't that silly? I'd love for you to link this to Science Sunday.
And, not to be repetitive, but each time I see your background I'm reminded again that it's very cool.

That's a very nice, simple experiment. It looks like your little guy had a good time doing it too!
