I Have What It Takes.

His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 2 Peter 1:3

If I had a quarter for the number of times I have heard "I could never home school my children.  I just don't have what it takes." I would be a very rich lady :)

We are ALL called to teach our children.  That is a big part of our job as parents.

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.  Deuteronomy 6:5-9

I have been called to be a home school teacher to my children.

I have been given everything I need to fulfill this mission.

God has given me:

Love:
I love my children more than any other human being will ever love them. (With the exception of their dad). I love the weird things that they say and do, I love their smooches, I love the way they look when they wake up in the morning.  Don't get me wrong, I do not love everything about my children, but God allows me to love them in spite of their shortfalls.

Wisdom:
God has allowed me to glean wisdom through various resources. Blogs, books, the bible, prayer, and divine inspiration all play a part in what I teach.

Joy:
I do not ooze zippity do da and skip around my house all day long.  Sometimes I am actually very a bit cranky.  I do have joy in seeing my little one's heads and hearts fill with knowledge.

Encouragement:
There are some key people that God has placed in my life who lift me up and tell me I am doing a good job.  I have some real life friends (even some who are not homeschoolers) who cheer me on, of course my bloggy friends are always great at leaving a sweet comment and my husband.  Without encouragement ones heart can grow bitter toward the task at hand.

There are defiately more things that I have been equipped with.  I hope and pray that my eyes will continually be opened to the ways that God enables me to preform the work He has called me to.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13

So very well said. Your list sums up very well what makes a great homeschool parent. And I appreciate your transparency! Makes me feel better knowing that others sometimes feel the same way as I do.
