Geocaching.

Have you tried Geocaching?  We just tried it again for the first time in a long time over the weekend.  The only thing you need is a GPS and the urge to go on an adventure.  It doesn't even have to be a big adventure.  The one we found was within walking distance from my house.
Here's the gist of Geocaching:
Using GPS coordinates found on Goecaching.com you hunt for a treasure(cache).
When you find it you write in the log book and then go back to Geocaching.com to log that you found (or didn't find) the cache.

Here we are hunting for the treasure.
Yay we found it!
There are tons of great lessons for your preschoolers to learn through Geocaching.
*Following directions
*Having a purpose for your activity.
*Focusing on the task
*Observing nature
*Working as a team

I highly recommended this recreational activity to young families. (Just be sure to choose the really easy caches to hunt for).

P.S. The winner of my Crayola Sidewalk Crayons giveaway is:
#4 Kellie from Training Up a Child,
Sorry I am widget illiterate it appears so you will just have to trust that Random.org picked the winner.

We tried it out this past spring and I loved it! My daughter at 19 months is a little young to enjoy it, but she likes being outdoors and getting "toys"! I'm so happy the weather is cooling down for fall so we can get back to it; the last few months have been just TOO darn hot!

You know, we did this once when we FIRST got our GPS and had so much fun. We'll totally have to try it again. Thanks for the reminder! Maddie would love to be outdoors with us, "searching" for something!

It looks like a modern version of letterboxing :) I think it's fun for the kids who are slightly older than mine. I will keep it in mind for later.
